Summary Report for Regional Conference on Refugee Protection and International Migration
The Conference Report and Action Plan of the ‘Regional Conference on Refugee Protection and International Migration’, held on 6-7 September 2010 in Dar es Salaam provides details on the main issues that were discussed during the conference and the recommendations that were proposed.
In general, four main themes emerged from the two days of conference discussions:
A clear call for strengthened national, bi-lateral and regional cooperation on refugee protection, mixed migration and irregular migration issues.
The need for improved national policy and legal frameworks to address the challenges of mixed migration flows,
The need to strengthen national capacity, in particular with regard to border management, to respond to the challenges of mixed migratory movements in a human rights and protection-sensitive manner.
A general recognition that more accurate refugee and migration data and improved data analysis
