IOM Releases #iamamigrant Song in South Africa

Uniting in song and dance, a group of some of South Africa’s popular musicians and personalities have teamed up with IOM to record a song on migration, Ubuntu and social cohesion to mark this year’s International Migrants day.

Pledging their time and craftsmanship, Kabomo, Masechaba Lekalake, Khabonina, Lection, AB Crazy, Jackie Carpede, Simphiwe Gwegwe, Mabongi, and Monde Msuthwana, are amongst the stars who are featured in this unique production aimed at raising awareness about migration.

“I Am A Migrant” is a refreshing and slightly up beat song, featuring a selection of high-impact messages promoting African unity, humanity, and compassion.

Equally talented up-and-coming artists such as Lady X, Tribute, Moonga, and Shatti also sprinkled their artistic flavour into the song, making a good jam to sing along to.

“Music, like sports can unite communities. We believe through song and dance that we can forget our differences but celebrate our diversity, our humanity and indeed celebrate migration,” says Dr. Erick Ventura, IOM South Africa Chief of Mission.

A video featuring some of South Africa and Africa’s top musicians and celebrities will be shot and released in 2014.

“I Am A Migrant”  is available for download on Soudcloud and Youtube. You can also listen to the song on IOM South Africa’s website.
