IOM #MigrationMeans Campaign to Stimulate Dialogue on Migration in South Africa

IOM #MigrationMeans Campaign to Stimulate Dialogue on Migration in South Africa

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has launched a social media campaign to advance understanding of migration through the individual stories from migrants and host communities and also promote the diverse work of the organization in South Africa and across the world.

Titled with the hashtag, #MigrationMeans, the campaign will promote conversations on migration using photographs from migrants, host communities and IOM beneficiaries. People are encouraged to Tweet or share on Facebook pictures of themselves holding white signs saying what migration means to them alongside the hashtag, #MigrationMeans.

IOM will share the best photos on the local and global Facebook and Twitter accounts. In addition, the most popular photos will be exhibited at the IOM Headquarters in Geneva on International Migrants Day 2014.

“Migration touches all of us, as migrants or as host communities. Migrants bring a lot with them, new skills, cultural diversity and energy. But in times of crises, migration takes on new associations, the need for shelter, warmth, access to health services, food, water, and so on. This campaign will shed some light on the complexity and diversity of our everyday work,” says Richard Ots, IOM South Africa Chief of Mission.
